Work With Christy

Learn about the remarkable life of Margaret Olemaun Pokiak-Fenton, the indomitable Inuvialuk residential school survivor and heroine of Fatty Legs and other stories, through multimedia storytelling sessions for K-12+

Author/Storytelling

Work with Christy and unleash creativity with storytelling/writing workshops and multimedia youth/elders workshops for learners of all ages and abilities, with specialized content for ELL youth and adult learners

Workshops

The Power of Story: Christy illuminates the path she and Olemaun shared toward intergenerational healing, as she recounts how a casually shared memory transformed into a movement. Learn how Olemaun’s bravery continues to call us to reshape trauma into triumph, one story at a time, generation to generation. Inquire about other keynote topics such as Radical Allyship: get dirty and uncomfortable, and Tell Me a Story: helping traumatized youth discover their voices

Keynotes

Understand why strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches matter, and how to apply them to create safe and empowered spaces when studying residential school history. Examine techniques to highlight Indigenous heroism, and decolonize approaches for learners of diverse cultures and experiences, through the stories of Olemaun. Includes an introduction to resources, activities, and other recommended learning materials
